4TH See Off Battling Dromore
4TH A 3-2 Dromore Amateurs Securing their status in the return to division 2B came closer for Carnmoney Old Boys side 4TH Newtownabbey as they saw off basement club Dromore. They made hard work of it though as the visitors put in a stubborn performance not letting the hosts produce any free flowing football. With both defences on top in the early stages, it took a fantastic 25 yard strike from Alan Cochrane to break the deadlock. Indeed since his arrival from Abbeyview in Antrim, he has been in scintillating form, this also enabling fellow midfield partner Scourfield returning to great form. The travelling support did see their side fight back to score a well worked equalizer, but with half time approaching, Lane latched on from a Trimble flick on to coolly slot the ball in to make it 2-1. Abbey extended their lead on the blow, Trimble lashing home a penalty after Gilmore had been felled. H.T 3-1 With a two goal advantage and the form of late, Dickson and the home support surely thought they would see their team go on to win this match comfortably, but to Dromore’s credit, they notched an early goal straight from kick off to set up a frantic second period. From this goal, custodian King was injured and had to be substituted with Cochrane who had previous experience in goals stepped in between the posts. Although Dromore had the better of the second half, 4TH’s defence was able to stem the attacks and chances were limited. Gilmore almost restored the two goal lead when he saw a fine run and long range shot rattle off the bar. The score was to finish 3-2 to Newtownabbey to take them one step closer to safety and close in on rivals Grange, who are a point ahead while at one stage were 20 in front of them. Team:- King, Macauley, Cullen, Gordan, N. Harvey , Lane , Scourfield, Cochrane, Kennedy, Gilmore, Trimble. Subs:-, D. Craig, Ian Irvine, C. Donnelly
