4TH Crash Out of Junior Shield
Ardoyne W.M.C 7-2 4th A Any run in the Junior Shield this year for Carnmoney men 4TH Newtownabbey came to an abrupt end as they went down battling against one of the favorites, Ardoyne. This tie was always going to be a hard one against the North Belfast side, who are undefeated so far this season. But the visitors surprised their opponents as they started the brighter, playing some lovely football in harsh blustery conditions at Mallusk. It was against the run of play however that W.M.C opened up the scoring from a harshly given indirect free kick inside the box. This knocked the stuffing out of Abbey who went 2 goals down shortly after but to their credit they pulled a deserved goal back through Bradbury who volleyed in Harris’ pass. They almost drew level when winger David Blair’s deflected shot looped onto the bar. This was as good as it got though as with the wind in their favor, Ardoyne stepped it up an notch and had Newtownabbey pinned back, scoring another 3 in the first period. H.T 5-1 With only pride to play for, the Old Boys did well in patches of the second half and could have made the game interesting for the spectators had they taken their chances. But again it was the clinical Ardoyne forward who added to the score line though Mark Harvey brought the game to a close with a delightful turn and finish inside the box. It’s back to the league next week for 4TH as they entertain Ford which manager Brian Dickson is aiming to bounce back from this heavy defeat. F.T 7-2 Team T. King ©, C. Hannah, M.
